How does a parent keep the child up if they keep them home from school during an epidemic?

If an swine outbreak hits, and I keep them home from school, are they flat unexcused absences, or can I do unexperienced homeschooling if it gets to be more than a few days? How does a parent keep the child up if they keep them home from school during an epidemic?
The state already has put exemptions in place in case of an outbreak. The minimum days of school can already be waived. Most of the schools should work with you about this. How does a parent keep the child up if they keep them home from school during an epidemic?
With religious exemption you can home school your kids with just a high school diploma in most states. You can also enroll your child in an accredited online school.

But really, if the flu gets out of control in your city they can just close the schools for a week and add a week on to the end of the year. Its not a huge deal.
Whenever kids are sick ..I get their work and help them do it at home.

As a parent you should be teaching your child outside of school reguardless if they are absent or not. Education isnt 100% the schools rensponsiblity. Your child wont have a very large base of knowledge if you just leave it up to the teachers.
If it were at pandemic levels then your child would be excused and you wouldn't have to worry about keeping them up to date. With the amount of preparation so far, that probably won't happen.
