Can a parent haver a minor committed to a psychiatric facility for behavior and mental problems?

In the State of NY. 13 year old with severe behavior and mental issues. Mother cannot handle him she is afraid of him. What is the process? Can a parent haver a minor committed to a psychiatric facility for behavior and mental problems?
She can call the police and have him bacaracted. She'll have to sign a form admitting him and they will take him there and he'll be evaluated for 72 hours. He will have to go through therapy sessions, group sessions, A Doctor will talk to him, and from there they will decide what he needs to do. He'll probably be put on medication to help him with his mental problems.

Trust me I've been there. Had to have my own Husband committed for 72 hours and also my daughter who had ADHD and ODD

So best of luckCan a parent haver a minor committed to a psychiatric facility for behavior and mental problems?
The parents can call 911 and have the minor taken to a psych hospital. If they feel that the minor is a danger to him/herself or others they will hospitalize the minor until he/she is doing better. If the minor is having a lot of mental health issues and feel that hospitalizing the minor will allow him/her to become mentally stable and/or on the right meds they will admit the minor. A person can be held for 72 hours for evaluation, after that they will need to re-evaluate. If they decide to admit, after 72 hours they can argue this decision. As the person in question is a minor, this would largely be left to the parents.

If it is more of a behavioral issue, the child may be better served in out-of-home placement, such as a RTF or a community residence. See the below link for an overview of OMH's child services: http://www.nyc.gov/html/doh/html/dmh/cas鈥?/a>
